Internet Marketing Professor, Columbia, SC - Social networking on the Internet has become very popular for the last few years among the younger generations and the general population. The real power of social networking is utilizing sites like LinkedIn and connecting with people that you already know. The real power o social networking is the ability to build a large social network of contacts or connections that could not otherwise be built without the use of Internet.
Most companies are allowing employees to access social network websites at work. Social network sites are powerful and are aimed at teenager and young adults. Social networking is so powerful that the average teen spends around 31 hours each week online visiting sites such as Facebook, YouTube, and MySpace.
MySpace, YouTube, and Facebook are three of the most popular websites for social networking. MySpace was created in 2003, by Tom Anderson. It was the most popular social networking website in 2006. It allows the user a much wider range of customization. With about 70 million visitors, it has become the digital equivalent of hanging out at the mall for today’s teens.
YouTube was found in February of 2005, by Steven Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim. Users can share videos that contain useful information along with viewing videos. The videos include a variety of information that is resourceful to all individuals.
Mark Zukerberg founded Facebook in February of 2004, which is a social network that enables individuals to interact with others from different areas of the world. It allows users to post pictures of themselves and family members. In February of 2009, Facebook was the most used social network. In June of 2009, individuals spent more time on Facebook than any other web page.
The Federal Trade Commission suggests tips for socializing on-line. First, think about the site and its reason for wanting you to join.
Secondly, keep personal information exactly that; personal. Do not post your entire name, address, social security number, etc. Posting personal information is easy access to being harmed.
Third, make sure your social website does not say too much about you. Although an individual may think their user name is not common, it can give clues about you.
Fourth, only post information that you are comfortable with other individuals viewing. Once information is posted, it cannot be taken back.
Finally, be cautious of any friends that may be met through social networking. Individuals my portray themselves to be sophisticated, knowledgeable, or interested. On the other hand, they may be your worst social network buddy trying to harm you.
If you are out to attract prospective customers and develop your online presence and exposure, you owe it to yourself and the financial future of your business to learn everything you can about Internet marketing.

The power of social networking

Internet Marketing Professor, Columbia, SC - The power of social networking sites presents a number of advantages and disadvantages for small business. The advantages of social networking include many. First, social networking sites are usually free to join and advertise. Second, creating a profile usually does not cost money. Third, another advantage of social networking is the ability to keep your clients up to date on the progress of your company. You can also set your pages up to allow people to add links on their own pages. Therefore, people will be able to find each other easier.
Next, social networking allows businesses to connect with their customers if they are in a different State, or Country. The Internet never closes, therefore, advertising through social networking sites has the potential to reach many more customers than using traditional forms of advertising.
Finally, one of biggest advantages of social networking sites is the ability to build a great client and promote your business.
On the other hand, there are disadvantages of social networking sites. First, some people are harmful within social networks. Secondly, people may be unrealistic. Young children and teenager may portray themselves being someone they are not. Immature children, not knowing any better, may post information they are too young to understand. Lastly, people may have a tendency to say anything.
In conclusion, individuals should be careful of the information placed on their profile page. A lot of companies are starting to use social networking to get detail information about individuals who apply with their companies. If an individual profile page displays them in an unfashionably way, it can cost them a great job opportunity. Therefore, social networking is more than just an opportunity to provide information. It is an opportunity to gain information.

Internet Marketing Professor, Columbia, SC - Social networking is starting to change the way the world works and how we relate to each other. Social networking is the focus of building on-line communities of people who share interest, or interested in exploring the interest and activities of others. Many of these online community members share a common interest such as hobbies, religion, or politics. Social networking is a way of interacting and sharing information with individuals through e-mails, chat rooms, and videos.
The Internet is filled with millions of individuals who are looking to meet other Internet users to develop friendships. When it comes to online social networking, websites are commonly used. Once access is granted to social networking websites, individual can begin to socialize with each other. On the other hand, in order to be an effective social networker you have to be aggressive and willing to communicate. Most of the open networkers with a lot of connections are not approachable. The social networker that has a thousand of connections has set up an autopilot system that allows themselves to accept connections, get your email address and start sending you offers for whatever they are selling. According to LinkedIn, this is one reason why social networking has a bad name. One of the main perspectives in social networking is the ability to meet your connections. Therefore, there must be a plan on who you want to connect with.
Individuals can benefit from social networking sites online. First, individuals social network because they want to do business with other people or find a job they desire. Benefits include diversity because the Internet gives individuals the ability to meet other individuals from all around the world access to social networking sites. Most companies have gravitated toward the positive view of social networking recognizing that they can benefit from the relationship their employees have outside the organization. There are a number of social networking websites that focus on particular interest, and there is other that does not. The websites without a main focus are often referred to as traditional social networking websites. This means that anyone can become a member. Nowadays, there are popular on-line communities such as Facebook, YouTube, and MySpace.

Internet Marketing Professor, Columbia, SC - If you are a business owner, no matter what size, have you jumped onto the social media bandwagon and designed a Facebook Business Page? If not, what’s holding you back? If you have, possibly you are wondering, “Ok, what do I do now?
Like any social networking platform, to gain the greatest web presence you need to grow you connections, followers, friends, and contacts as much as possible. Facebook is no different. Research by DHI-Communications and The Internet Marketing Professor has found that businesses who spend only 15 minutes even every other day following specific strategies results in rapidly growing their Facebook friends, fans, and following.
Here are a few of the key strategies businesses are using to stay at the front of their industry:
Grow Your Fan Base
Initially, you want to invite anyone and everyone affiliated with your company to join your fan base on Facebook. use the email list checker to determine who on your email list also has a presence and invite them to join your flock. Join all applicable groups which will open up a hundreds and even thousands of fresh contacts to invite. To do this click on the Groups icon on the bottom toolbar, then search for affiliated industry groups and customer audience.
Send invitations to customers, business connections, and vendors. Off and on, review your contact lists for potential customers. There is also a feature that allows you to import your contact database. can they make it any easier to build a list quickly. Like any social network, when sending invitations, make them personal by saying:
1. How you located their name, met, or if you know them.
2. The reason for wanting to connect.
3. Let them know a benefit of connecting with you.
Keep you Profile and Page Updated
Not keeping your profile pages updated is like not wanting to keep your contacts informed of what you are doing. Taking only a couple minutes every other day to add or edit one thing will add a new post to your list letting them know of the update. The Facebook News Feed lists your the updates you and your friend’s make. This will also be the first thing seen by your contacts when the login. To keep your page fresh and visible, add news, product promotions, events, blog postings, articles, discussion topics, videos and photos.
Get the Word Out
Now that you are updated and ready to call in the troops, notify employees, customers, friends and business contacts that you now have a presence on Facebook. You can even ask them to pass your Group/Page with their contacts. Also, add your Facebook link to all of your identity products like your business cards, any marketing material, email signatures, website, and blog.

May 21, 2009 by admin
Once in a while, a new technology or innovation comes along that creates an avalanche of followers. Twitter is such innovation. Excitement can quickly overwhelm a person when they start on Twitter and receive their first follower. A couple days later it is up to 10, and in a month into the thousands.
With books such as Joel Comm’s Twitter Power: How to Dominate Your Market One Tweet at a Time the savvy business owner looking to create a sense of community within their niche can locate many strategic techniques that will allow them to turn followers into paying customers.
With many major corporation jumping on the social networking wagon, the time is ripe to learn the top tips on how to utilize Twitter to its fullest capacity.
1. Paste every posting (tweet) in a word processing document to re-tweet (RT) on another occasion.
2. Work smarter not harder. Schedule when to release tweets with a tool such as http://www.hootsuite.com
3. RT the same message a few times during the day. Some of your followers may see it and others may not. law of averages.
4. Type ‘PLS RT’ (please re-tweet) at the end of tweets you wish to become almost viral. This notifies your followers to pass it on to their followers as a tweet from their account.
5. Add a line to your email signature file that says, “Follow me on Twitter” and either hyperlink your twitter account URL to it or type it in following the message.
6. Do you have a blog and website? If so, add icons to all of your pages that enable visitors to go to your Twitter page. It is best not to add it to your Contact Us page because you may not check your direct messages too often. If you have a large following, you may have several hundred direct messages per day.
7. Build a sense of community by tweeting about what you are personally doing not just with your business or career. People follow and buy from those they know, like and trust. A favorite buzz line of the sales and marketing community.
8. Be kind and tweet unto others as they tweet unto you. Reply and RT your followers.
9. Use a picture of you, not your corporate logo. Think about obtaining a professional looking Twitter background with a larger image of you and personal and company information.
10. Make sure you have a link to your website on your Twitter page! No sense in being there if you can’t get people back to your website at some point.
11. Send links to your blog posts, and RSS feed and vice versa. Using a service such as Ping.fm you can automatically have blog entries entered into your Twitter account page and 40 or so other social network sites.
If you integrate some or all of the above eleven Twitter tips, you will not only see your following skyrocket, but your business sales may surprise you too.

Although many social networking sites are designed for wide access, many attract the same populations initially. Therefore it is not uncommon to find segregated sites. These sites are usually identified by users of the same nationality, age, educational level, or other aspects that typically divides society, even if it is not the intention of the designer.
There are many factors that make social networking sites unique. One important aspect of social sites is the fact that they allow users to be expressive in articulating visibly their social networks. This feature allows connections between people who otherwise may never have connected. On the other hand, some of the larger social network sites, users are not necessarily networking, or looking to meet new people; they are merely staying in connect with individuals who are already apart of their extended social group.
Social network sites have a variety of technical features, but its most valuable asset is the use of profiles. Profiles are pages used to bring individuals to life online. A description is set up to include personal information such as age, height, birth date, and sexual orientation. Most sites also encourage their users to submit a picture to post. Some sites, such as Facebook, allow users to enhance their sites by incorporating multimedia content or adjustment to their profile overall look.
Access and visibility of profiles vary by sites and users discretion. Some sites are acquired through search engines allowing anyone visibility to profiles regardless of whether the viewer has an account. Sites like MySpace gives users a choice of whether or not they want their profiles to be public or only open to their network of friends. There are other sites that only allow access to profiles based on whether the user has a paid account. On the other hand, Facebook users who are of the same network automatically are allowed to view each other’s profiles. The variations of how visibility is allowed, is a primary aspect of how many social networks sites are differentiated.
