Social Media Tips: 4 Keys to Getting Found on Google as an Insider

social-media-bibleInternet Marketing Professor, Columbia, SC - Using the Internet to its fullest power to develop your best business presence means being on the first page of Google or at least the second page for each of your keywords. There are definitely specific steps to take to master this, in order to help people and the search engine spiders in finding you.

How is this done? Following are four easy steps to take to bolster your rating:

1. If you do not currently have a blog, then stop what you are doing and do it today. What is it that your business does and what is important to your customers and potential clients? Share the insider information with them, develop relationships, and most of all write in a conversation tone. Do not try to sell through your blog. Its mission is for relationship building.

2. Build your standing within the crowd you associate with. That means connect with the industry movers and shakers. Become known as a go-to person who knows the inside scoop on all things relevant to your niche. In the professional world today, posting and connecting through Twitter and LinkedIn are among the top strategies. Find the top 10 blogs in your niche and post valuable comments to blog postings. make sure you add a signature line in your comment with your name and link to your website and or blog.  The material you post needs to be relevant, valuable, and user friendly to others.

3. Become Mr. or Ms. Consistent. Google loves web pages that are update often with specific information. Post to your blog on an almost daily basis and in no time your posting will become ranked very high not to mention your over blog site. Most blogging platforms allow you to pre-post messages and schedule them for later delivery. You can always add time sensitive posts in between.

4. Make sure your blog is being submitted to all of the search engines and blog rolls. This also can be done automatically after making a post by adding the submission sites to the delivery schedule. Are you a local business in your community? If so, ensure your site and blog are listed under as many local search sites like Google Local Search. This helps people find you when searching for businesses like yours in your town. Make sure you add as many keywords as possible within your profile on the local search engines. You can list your business under several topics too.

Using Facebook and Social Media Planning for Online Business Success

January 26, 2010 by DrDaveHale
Filed under Blog, Internet Marketing, Jan 2010, Social marketing

psyofsucNew social networking sites seem to be sprouting up almost on a daily basis. It is difficult to even keep up with which are the appropriate ones for your own business interest. Although, what some companies are doing today, if they are unable to locate a networking site directed towards their niche or any that service their specific niche, they are creating their own network sites.

In January 2009, one company launched a social network to help moms return to work and for working moms trying to do it all. The company was a privately-funded, women-owned start-up with no advertising or PR budget at hand. Given the partners both came from advertising backgrounds, they understood the importance in harnessing the power of tools such as Twitter and Facebook to aid us in building their brand and gaining awareness of their new venture.

To begin, prior to launch, they set up a Facebook page as a means to begin to get the word out using a teaser campaign on our Fan Page – COMING SOON! … LAUNCHING JANUARY 15th! In so doing, they were able to gain hundreds of members for their new venture before even launching our company. They regularly updated their fans as to the progress of their site, and what the members could expect. This was a huge success given that they were able to convert those fans to members of their community within the first days of their network site opening.

Secondly, upon launch, they created a twitter page using their company name. After researching, they followed all the major players in their niche, media and job/career-related firms with hopes of them following back. Many of them did. However, not more than a month or two after, it was clearly recognized that without having the benefit of their keyword in their Twitter name, they were not being found.

After two months of tweets, they elected to change directions and start using their keyword along with their company name in their Twitter ID, which quickly took hold. After two months, they had 2500 followers. And this being in a highly niche-oriented business.

The best part is that they were able to convert most of their Twitter followers into paid members of their monthly membership site.

Following this social media plan, in just 5 months, they were a global social network seeing 70,000 views/month, 6+ minutes/view, 40% unique visitors and close to 2700 members.

Without the benefit of Facebook, they would still be in their cocoon.

Social Media Tips and Strategies for Writers and Small Businesses

Writers today are finding that social media networking sites are a fantastic method to gain a following for their writing projects. Using blogs, Facebook, Myspace and LinkedIn for marketing purposes may find you  great results.

Here are some very effective tips, strategies and reasons for using social media networking:

1. If your marketing is directed towards teens, use blogs, Facebook, and Twitter to target your market as most teens today are pretty much on these sites every day. This is the best way to reach out to them and get your name known. You can adjust this technique no matter what your personal niche is.

2. Publicize seminars & webinars that you lead.

3. Distribute articles that I’m writing or researching.

4. Hiring staff & interns

5. Raising our Google Ranking

6. Market webcasts via LinkedIn.

7. Provide free seminars to networking groups, non-profits and business owners on using LinkedIn to grow their businesses. What better place to then well your books and services.

8. I incorporate topical news headlines and other ideas into creating taglines that I then use in Twitter posts, which are automatically posted as status updates on my Facebook page.

9. One word of warning to those marketing on Facebook: don’t overdo it.  Many people on Facebook get offended when they see too many “sales pitches” - so use those sparingly, and intersperse them with lots of other posts that help show that you’re human and not just some unstoppable marketing machine (or worse - a Spam machine).

People have seen as much as an 800% increase week-to-week for people following or visiting their Website coming from Facebook and Twitter, by following these strategies. Sales of their books, professional services, and speaking engagements have increased as well.

Authors are pursuing the online media as their main avenue for marketing, because it’s free and effective.

You will be surprised and amazed at how well some people in your network use LinkedIn and other social media networking sites to market their businesses & affinity groups.

New Social Media Research White Paper

The Internet Marketing Professor

Releases New Social Media Research White Paper

December 3, 2009 — COLUMBIA, SC - David Hale, PhD the start-up guru behind DHI-Communications and The Internet Marketing Professor (www.drdavehaleonline.com), announced today that he is releasing a new white paper entitled, Social Media: A Primer, which is based upon recent research conducted through a collaborative effort between DHI-Communications and The Internet Marketing Professor.

Research suggests that social networking has become a headline grabbing phenomenon that is rapidly growing. Instead of using social networking as a tool to simply connect with people, entrepreneurs across the world are frequently trying to find ways to utilize the trend of social networking as a business opportunity.

Studies suggest that social networking sites should be viewed as a complementary device to the presence of businesses in order to promote success. Businesses should consider the sites as an asset that is valuable and useful in gaining their companies positive attention. In essence social networking sites, when used properly, should not be employed as a replacement to the business traditional online presence.

As entrepreneurs are encouraged to use social networking sites to upgrade the faces of their business, it is essential that they allocate time to peruse sites and experiment the functionality of various sites in order to select a proper location that will allow them to promote or seek business opportunities. While researching, one should factor in various characteristics of the site that will compliment the central makeup of the business or opportunity to be embarked.

Social networking sites are geared toward many different types of business orientations. For example, some sites are best simply for business networking, while others are largely influential as human resource tools. The Klein study (2008) proposed that there are many sites used to gain exposure for larger audiences.  It is noted that entrepreneurs should use sites like Facebook to join networks based on their industry’s category to tap into other similarities in relations to their business concepts and prospects. This will allow an opportunity for businessmen to clearly establish their roles while keeping interactions focused on the specific subject matter, at the same time not going through the vast amount of confusion often experienced in business management.

In relations to the promotion of business, recent findings show that social networking often receives a positive return for entrepreneurs. It allows a capacity that puts a face on the business featured and also creates an impression of what type of relationship will be established. Social networking also provides the task of allowing customers and acquaintances a chance to have relationships with people they find interesting, which is every entrepreneurs’ ultimate goal.

“I think this paper will answer many questions business leaders have as to whether they should dive into the Social Media waters and the value it will bring to their bottom line,” said Hale, “Social Media is the one solution to the question, how can I best develop a relationship with my customer base?”

Internet Marketing On The Cheap

October 30, 2009 by DrDaveHale

You read that right.  How to start online with no money.  None, nada, zilch, nothing.

Yes, you can do it.  Do I advise it if you have money?  No.    But, if you must, you must.

So if you must:

1)  You will have to start by promoting other people’s products, until you develop your own.  I advise, however,  from day 1, that you will keep your eye on developing your own product.  Look around online.  The successful have their own product.  Even though they didn’t at first.  But now they do.

2)  Get your own web site.  There are plenty of free ones out there-just run a search on your favorite search engine.  But beware—you get what you pay for.  So you will want to upgrade as soon as you can.

If you have never programmed, do not fear.  There are plenty of good site builders out there, and many are free with the free sites.

3)  Get an auto responder.  Several auto responder companies have a free version.  It will probably be loaded with advertisements, etc.  Again, you get what you pay for and should upgrade as soon as you can.  Be aware of trying to use your web host’s auto responder.  You don’t have the ability to get your IP address white listed by the email companies, so much of your mail will not be delivered.  By the way, another tip here:  always subscribe to your own list so you know what the email looks like and whether it goes to your inbox or your bulk box.

4)  Learn everything you can about traffic generation and take massive action.  You need hundreds of visitors a day to do real testing and become successful.  Go out and get them.  Use every traffic generation technique available, test everything you do, and keep doing what works.

5)  Learn to write good sales letters and emails.  Write like you talk.  Conversationally.  Like this article.  You will eventually want to buy information on how to write better, but at first you can wing it by studying from others for free.

6)  Stick to it.  Don’t take any money out of the business.  When you make your first 100 dollars, that is not a treat for Friday night.  Upgrade your web sites, auto responders, and buy a book on writing good emails.  Then next month you can clear 200.  Just keep reinvesting, both your money and your time.  Starting on a shoestring will be trying, but if you stick with it, it will be worth it.

Internet Marketing Roadblocks

October 29, 2009 by DrDaveHale

One of the most destructive and productivity robbing things about working online is the easy access to useless surfing, email reading, game playing, and other non-profitable activities online.

You can have a brilliant product, a knowledge of the internet and how to make it work for you, and the willingness to spend several hours a day online, and still fail.  Why?  One of the biggest reasons is the tendency to “wander” while online.

So how do you control your time online:

Try these tips:

1)  BEFORE you sit down at the computer, make a list of things you need to accomplish, and estimate the time it will take.

2)  Give yourself a specific amount of time to answer email–15 minutes, perhaps, and learn to answer the important ones first.  When the time is up, get to work on the list you made in tip number 1.

3)  Limit the time you spend surfing.  Again, 15 minutes is a good number.

4)  When you are searching for new information about your field or about a new idea, know exactly what you are looking for, and be very focused.  It is easy to spend 4 hours looking for new information and reading a lot online, but have very little to show for your time afterwards.  If you aren’t finding what you want, wait until later.

5)  Determine to take action.  Once you have learned how to do something, just do it.  Start on it.  It is too easy online to just keep gathering information, but never get the real work done.

6)  If you work at home, be able to balance your free time and work time.  If you are working, don’t stop every ten minutes to do something around the house.

7)  At the same time, when you are not working, do not check your email every ten minutes.  It can wait until the morning.  A dangerous cycle is that you find yourself being distracted when you are working and also when you are not.  If you can seriously separate work from home, you will be more productive when you work.

8)  Commit to  a specific amount of time online every day and stick to it.

Building Your Internet Marketing Empire

October 28, 2009 by DrDaveHale

Your personal online money-making empire.  What would that look like for you?  Would it mean the freedom to work when you wanted to, how you wanted to?  Would it give you more time at home with your kids?  Would it give you the time to pursue your hobby?

So how would that money-making empire look?  Would it sell products, services, information?  Would it direct traffic to someone else’s product, service, or information?  Would it be automated?  Would it work even when you aren’t working?

Let’s cut to the chase:

1)  You must have a highly targeted focus.  You will only build your empire by focusing like a laser.  You will only become financially free by becoming an expert at something, and doing that one thing well and with passion.  You can only become an expert at one thing at a time.  Think about the past.  You’ve tried this, or tried that.  Even now you have 4 different projects going.  None of them highly successful.  What would happen if you dropped all but one of them and focused on being the very best in the whole world at that one project.  Where would that project be in 90 days, 6 months?

2)  Once you have chosen what to excel at, develop a game plan for mastering it.  Invest in your education.  Learn more about your new specialization than everybody else.  Become an expert.  Become the expert others come to for advice.

3)  Take action!  There is a time for learning.  You must learn to become great.  But many people online spend their time learning, always looking for the easiest way to make a buck–but they never get anywhere, because they are always learning about the newest, greatest, fastest, rather than applying the newest, greatest, fastest.  You will only succeed at the rate at which you are applying your new information.  What does that mean today?  Rather than just thinking about how to do something, just do it.  Do everything you know.   When you get to a roadblock, stop and learn more.  But right now, today, do what you know.

4)  Be willing to innovate.  You do not have to do it the same way everyone else does.  I get tons of emails every day.  Nearly all of them look the same, feel the same, evoke the same feelings within me.  But a few stand out.  They get read.  They get clicked.  They are different.  I am tired of the same old thing.  Innovate.

5)  Be better than anyone else.  Don’t limit yourself by thinking, if he is making money with that, I’ll just do that and it will work for me.  He has a jump start on you.  Don’t do it his way, do it better.  Do it better and the business will flow your way.

6)  Think big–bigger than you are.  We generally get what we visualize.  You think you cannot make money online–you are right.  You think you can make $500 a week.  You are right.  You think the sky is the limit?  You are right.

7)  Be willing to give it everything.  When you were in school and you just wanted that degree, what did you do?  You gave it everything you needed to graduate.  You stayed up late at night studying.  You did whatever it took.  What about your last job hunt?  You had been out of work for awhile.  You needed that job.  So what did you do?  Everything you had to to get it.  Do the same thing online.   Do whatever it takes to become successful.

Internet Marketing Monetization

October 27, 2009 by DrDaveHale

What is internet monetization?  Monetization is the process of converting an asset to cash, or money.  Internet monetization is the conversion of internet assets to cash or money.  And effective internet monetization is the process of converting internet assets to cash or money at a rate that exceeds the cost initially invested in the internet asset.

So what does that really mean?  It means taking what we own on the internet and converting it to cash in our bank account.  You see, no matter how many ebooks, subscribers, or how much traffic we have, if we do not convert it to cash, we are not effectively monetizing our internet assets.

So how do we do it?

First, we start with our internet assets.  What are internet assets?  Anything online that has the potential, either in the present or in the future, to create a stream of income is an internet asset.

These assets can include, but are not limited to:  visitors to our web pages, web sites, landing pages, referral links, ebooks, information we own, information we know, patterns we understand, subscribers on our mailing lists, and anything else online that has the possibility of producing a revenue stream.

How do we monetize these?  Ask yourself, how can I create an income stream from each of my internet assets?  Just for starters, here are some ideas:

  • Internet Asset: Monetization Idea
  • Visitors to our web pages:  convert into paying customers
  • Web sites: Increase conversion rate; add additional streams of income like affiliate links and Adsense revenue
  • Landing pages: Convert traffic into subscribers for future monetization; offer confirmation page sales letter
  • Referral links: Actively promote them
  • Ebooks: Begin promoting them; sell them or give them away to create value
  • Information we know: Create an information product–an ebook, audio, or video presentation

Are you getting the picture here?

You should be constantly scouring all of your internet sales process and all of your online activity to determine where you can add in monetization.  Begin to think big, to see everything as an income stream, and you will find serious success online!
